St John & St James
Learning community
“Thank you again, and Dominic and Jon, for all you have done to create a wonderful building for ‘our learning community”.
Heather Knightley, Headteacher.

Together with the London Borough of Enfield, the London Diocesan Board for Schools is expanding St John and St James School from one to two forms of entry plus a nursery. SCABAL were first appointed by the LDBS in Spring 2008 to masterplan options incorporating an adjacent green into the proposal to allow the new school to be built on the existing playground without disrupting the adjacent existing school.
Then appointed as architects for the project to completion, we worked closely with the LDBS, Enfield and the school to develop a new 1,700 sqm main building extending over two floors, adjacent to and accessible from the remaining 1,100 sqm 1970s school building. The new main building includes on the ground floor the nursery, pairs of reception and Year 1 classrooms and small hall, all grouped around an atrium transition space for gathering and breakout learning.
